As I was preparing for my second shoot yesterday I started reflecting on the different venues of nudes that my clients ask for. Yesterday was Glamour Nude day but there were some Artistic Nudes thrown in the mix. The shoot was for a calendar that the client wanted to make. As Lisa (face2face) was doing the makeup I prepared the studio for both Art Nudes and Glamour Nudes. It’s so fantastic to be able to have the room to have several venues ready to go for any given shoot. Over the next couple of weeks we hope to build 3 to 4 more set areas in the studio. I just have to figure out what to build… 🙂

Yesterday we started with the Artistic Nudes as usual (to avoid clothing lines on the skin) and then shot the Glamour Nudes both using the Boudoir set as well as the “dressing table” set. We actually ended up using the main shooting room again towards the end of the shoot because the client had some cool clothing that we could shoot her in making the shots look really awesome with a fashion twist.

At Casual Elegance Photography® we never get tired of the variety of shoots we do. From head shots to Maternity to commercial to art and glamour nudes! Every day it’s something different and different is always good!

How many times have you caught a glimpse of yourself in the mirror when you stepped out of the shower and thought for a split second “Hey! I look darn good!” We hear so much about women not liking this or that part of their anatomy – but most women will have those split second moments where they actually see the true beauty of their form.

Maybe it is the curve of your hip, or the length of your neck, but something will catch your eye and for that split second you allow yourself to see your true beauty. That is what we love to create with our fine art nude photography. When you see yourself on the screen and say “I can’t believe that’s really me!” then we have done our job and captured one of those “split second moments” for you and preserved it for you forever in a beautiful photographic work of art. Give us a call or send us an email to set up your artistic nude photo session. Let’s create art from life!

We’re back from Florida.  I use the word “vacation” because it was sort of a vacation, but more importantly it was a time for family.  Not just the Andersons, but Ruth’s whole family as well.  The MOST IMPORTANT part of the trip was it was Ruth’s dad, Sid, 90th birthday celebration.  I can’t even begin to understand what it would be like to have lived almost a century and seen the changes that have taken place during that time.

I won’t bore you with all the details of the trip, but I have to say that one of the most memorable parts was when Adam (our oldest son) and Sid were singing Barbershop harmony on Wednesday afternoon.  Sid introduced Adam (at age 14) to Barbershop and there are so many memories of them singing together.

All I can say is that Ruth and I had a fantastic time!  Everyone (our kids, our family,  the grand kids) under the same roof for a few days was something we will never forget.  Now it’s Ruth’s job to sort through the 500 or more frames to decide the ones that will go into a “memory book”.    It’s back to work for me…  I have a full schedule for the next couple of weeks.

Ok, you’ve called Casual Elegance Photography® and booked an appointment to do a boudoir photography session, and have gotten yourself relaxed and comfortable with the idea. How do you prepare for your boudoir photographs?  Here are several tips:

Have your nails done prior to the session your hands will be in the images, so you want them to look great! We recommend a French Manicure because it is natural yet very stylish looking. French nails will complement any outfit or setting.

Remove any unwanted body hair prior to the session. If you wax, do so a day or two ahead. Shaving should be done the night before not the day of the shoot! You don’t want any redness (or soreness) for your shoot.

Choose outfits that you feel comfortable in. It’s not just important that they fit well you should really LIKE the outfits, and you should also feel that your partner will like them. Why is this as important as the fit? Believe it or not, if you are uncomfortable with your choices in any way, it will most likely show on your face or in your body language when we are shooting. Remember our goal! Relaxed and comfortable while shooting!!Our makeup artists do minor hair work but are not hair stylists. If you want to hire a hairstylist for the shoot, please give us plenty of notice. You should have any haircutting, coloring or highlighting done a couple of days before the shoot.

Hungry?? Don’t eat a big meal just prior to the session. This can make you feel bloated and sluggish during the shoot. Don’t starve yourself, but keep it light. Drink water to keep your skin hydrated. And be sure to get a good night’s sleep the night prior to the session.

Pack your clothing items neatly in your bag so they won’t require a lot of preparation at the shoot. It’s a good idea to hang clothing that will wrinkle in a bag. Be sure to bring the accessories that go with each outfit, such as jewelry and heels. I recommend that you put the jewelry in plastic baggies and place them with each outfit so that you can find them easily at the session. Searching through your bag, trying to find the right items will stress you out. With everything put together beforehand you won’t even have to worry about it at the shoot – and it will help eliminate the possibility of forgetting something! Bring jewelry and items that are important to your partner. They may not be dominant in the photos, but I can tell you that they will be noticed, and make your photos even more special.

Now you look great, you’re relaxed, packed and ready to go to the session. What do you wear? Nope, not those tight jeans! You should wear something loose that won’t leave any clothing lines on your skin. Why?Because they take hours to go away, and we want you to look your best ! Most of my clients wear a loose dress with nothing under it to the shoot. They also pack something to wear home, many bring a special outfit to go with the great makeup that they will have on when the shoot is over.

And speaking of makeup, I recommend arriving with a clean, makeup free face so that the Markup Artist can start right away. And PLEASE, no moisturizers containing SPF of any sort! Remember, SPF’s job is to reflect light away from you. This can cause a “blown out” look in your photographs. If you have any specific questions not answered here, please don’t hesitate to contact us. More tips can be viewed on our FAQs page .  770-294-5225 See you soon!

If you’re and actor or a model, your headshot is one of the most important shots you can have taken.  It’s your best chance to make a good first impression.  It’s your marketing department, your sales team, and your advertising campaign.

Don’t skimp on it.  Get a professional makeup artist that knows their craft, pick a photographer who’s work you and your agent like, and select a look for yourself that matches your goals.   Sounds simple?  Right…   too many times someone who is getting their headshots done elect to do their own makeup (sometimes they are good at their makeup, but most times they are not as good as a MUA), picks a photographer who isn’t the right match, and then selects images that don’t show the qualities in them that will get them noticed.

Headshots are not something that’s a quick “get the shot and go” process.  It takes preparation to get it right.  You need to discuss the desired results with your agent, research photographers, find a good makeup artist, and when the shoot is over, take the time to select the images that you and your agent feel will work for you.  Then, and only then, will the process be complete.  It takes time, but it’s worth it.

At Casual Elegance Photography® we are happy to meet with you and your agent to gather your thoughts on the headshots you want, show you samples of our work, work with you to be sure we meet your expectations, and offer the services of the professional makeup artists we work with.   We believe in the headshot process and the importance of a great one.  We want to earn your business and have you become a client, not just a customer, for your future headshots.  Remember, they should be updated often and show a variety of “looks” to keep you in the “spotlight”.   We offer several headshot packages to match your budget, but more importantly, to match your expectations of a great headshot.

I received a call from a potential client back a while ago and I was actually very delighted that she had such a good list of questions for me before she would hire a photographer. She had done her homework and said that she wanted to be sure she was dealing with a professional business and not someone who wasn’t a professional photographer.  Here are some of the questions she asked.

1. Do you have a business license? (yes – in Sandy Springs where my studio is and I am registered with the State of GA to collect tax)
2. Are you a corporation and in which state? (yes – Mark L. Anderson, LLC – Georgia – DBA Casual Elegance Photography® – – notice the  registered trademark symbol.)
3. Do you have insurance? (yes – liability and loss of property)
4. When did you start the business? (2000)
5. Do you have a Website? – she was referred by a friend (yes – casualelegancephotography.com and the site has samples, testimonials, contact information, and information about me.  Sure it costs money for a site, but it’s an investment that a business must make.)
6. Can I meet with you ahead of the shoot and see your studio? (yes – I encourage that.  We also have samples of our calendar and book products so you can see how they look.)
7. Do you have a Makeup Artist? (yes – I utilize the services of several in the area but work closely with 3 – all licensed estheticians and great people!)
8. Can I bring someone to the shoot with me? (YES – I highly encourage you to do that)
9. Will my photos be sold or used by you? ( NO! I do not use client images. If a client wants me to use an image I require them to sign an agreement for me to do so. I don’t even allow anyone other than the client to order prints or a CD)

She had a bunch more questions but they were related to what kind of studio I have, the process, the shoot, and the timing. As I said, I was delighted that she was taking the task of hiring a photographer so seriously and I gladly answered her questions. It made me very happy that I had followed all the right steps to build my business correctly.  It was not easy, but I feel good that I did everything I did.
