Most of the time when a couple first contacts Casual Elegance Photography®about doing a photo shoot together as a couple, they have not quite decided how “daring” they plan to be with their photographs. They simply know that they want something beyond the standard couples portrait – they are looking for something more romantic, more intimate, and with more spice!

Most clients arrive with at least a couple of specific shots in mind that they want to do.   Something they have seen on my website, or one that is particularly significant to them.  I start off the photoshoot by doing those shots for them, and I do more in terms of “directing” – since they are trying to achieve a specific look or a specific pose.  After we’ve finished those shots, if they want me to stay that involved in creating their poses, I do.

Most couple are a bit nervous at first. But after they see the shots we are getting they tend to relax. I’ve had couples say they actually forgot that they were in the studio.

There are times though, when my couples photoshoot clients prefer a more laid back shooting style.  And that’s ok too!   My shoots are pretty laid back anyway!  But while a boudoir or glamour shoot is all about getting glammed up and creating a definite look, which sometimes can require more direction as to the various poses, facial expressions, etc, the couples shoot is about capturing the true essence of their relationship.

I find that couples really relax when they get into the shoot and see that I am willing to let them take the lead, unless they ask for my input.  I’m always happy to help with ideas of how to create a certain look, or a lighting change that can really add to their photograph.  But basically I feel that in a couples photoshoot my purpose is simply to capture their moments.  Not to try to create them.  For example, if a man is going to kiss a woman’s neck – I don’t really think I need to tell him how to do it!  In that instance, too much direction from me could steal their moment.   I prefer to “fade” into the background, and simply compose the shot and shoot, so that all they are hearing is the click of the shutter, not “bend your head a little to the right – great, now lift her chin a little…”  You get the idea!  In couples photography less is definitely more!  The less “involved” I am in the process, the more relaxed and natural their photographs.   Giving couples the “creative control” over the shoot also allows them to decide where they want the shoot to go – and I just go with the flow!   Knowing they can always just give the reins back to me allows them let their hair down and just have fun with the shoot.

Once again comes the question – do you have to be nude?  Absolutely not!  You decide how revealing you want your photographs to be!  Generally when couples come to me for other than the standard couples portrait, they intend for their photographs to be at least partially nude.  Sometimes she wants to be nude, and he wants to be clothed or just bare chested – that’s great!  If you both want to be just topless, that’s fine too.  These are your photographs.  Many of our couples have done completely nude photographs in poses that left everything to the imagination – except for the fact that the viewer knows they are nude.  A simple lighting adjustment or change in the position of an arm or leg can place shadows wherever you want them to be!  Some of the most fabulous art nude portraits I’ve done for clients to hang in their homes showed nothing more than the symmetry of the lines of their bodies. Other couples want to show everything – they want to capture the intimate nature of their relationship. But again, it’s totally up to the couple.

If you’ve come so far as to read this entry, you’ve probably at least considered doing a couples photoshoot.  This brings me once again to this statement – your photographs will absolutely never  be used on my website unless you ask me to use them and give me your specific, written permission.  Nor are your photographs ever sold to anyone except you.   My respect for my clients’ privacy is well known, and is one of the reasons my clients happily refer their friends to Casual Elegance Photography®.

I can only tell you that without exception my couples clients have said that once they got up the nerve to just go for it, and scheduled a photoshoot with me, they had an absolute blast doing their photographs, and not one regret later! Many come back for more sessions and I get many referrals from couples who have experienced my Couples Photo Sessions.

Okay, Fact, we live in a great country.  We have our freedom and we can express our views openly under our constitution.  So why not celebrate “Your Personal Freedom”  with a boudoir, glamour, or nude photoshoot.  I’m talking about the freedom to look at yourself in the nude and say “I’m beautiful!!!”

Lately I’ve been shooting with clients in their mid 40’s through their mid 50’s and it’s amazing to me how great they are at expressing themselves and living life to the fullest.  I LOVE these shoots!  The clients are wonderful, the whole team works as one, and we get exceptional results.   What I love the most is when we take the first few shots and the images appear on the monitor – I love the look on the client’s face and the words “wow, I can’t believe that’s really me!!!”   It’s a real rush for me, the team, and the client!

So… celebrate your “freedom” and book an appointment with Casual Elegance Photography ® for your “Freedom Shoot”.

PS – We have a gigantic American Flag to help with the theme.  In addition we give a military family discount to those who have loved ones who are part of our armed forces.  As a Vietnam Vet, I appreciate the families and our soldiers.

Over the past few months there has been an increase in the requests I’ve received for theme based photo sessions.  A them based session is one that follows a theme from beginning to end.  Sometimes referred to as Situational Glamour.   For instance, one we did back a while ago was a “cooking” theme.  It started out fully dressed – making cookies.  It proceeded to get “hotter and hotter” until the final images were nudes with flour, etc. all over the place and body.

We’ve done “construction” themes, “personal assistant” themes, “hot August night” themes, and “Bridal” themes to name a few.  The key to a successful shoot is to have a “storyboard” of the shoot ideas so we don’t forget anything and know exactly what needs to be done when.   The story board doesn’t have to be a work of art, just a guide to make sure the idea flows well.  We’ve had the subject bring a friend who helps with the shoot, or one of our makeup artists might help with it, but it always makes for an interesting shoot.   And now that our studio has a shower, it’s easier for the client to clean up after (especially when there is food involved).

At Casual Elegance Photography ® we are ready to bring your theme to life.  Give me a call or send me an email to get your session started.

Over the past couple of years I have entered a contest of the Worlds Greatest Erotic Art. I’ve been published in two of their books which are sold world wide. Since the word “erotic” means different things to everyone, I typically work with a few models to collaborate on mutual ideas. This year instead of just shooting with women I may be working with a couple of men to present a more robust set of entries. I have several ideas but I’m not sure that I can make them work. I enter the photography section of the contest so I can’t use Photoshop to make the photos something they aren’t in the first place. But I’m really hopeful that I can get published again this year!

As I was preparing for my second shoot yesterday I started reflecting on the different venues of nudes that my clients ask for. Yesterday was Glamour Nude day but there were some Artistic Nudes thrown in the mix. The shoot was for a calendar that the client wanted to make. As Lisa (face2face) was doing the makeup I prepared the studio for both Art Nudes and Glamour Nudes. It’s so fantastic to be able to have the room to have several venues ready to go for any given shoot. Over the next couple of weeks we hope to build 3 to 4 more set areas in the studio. I just have to figure out what to build… 🙂

Yesterday we started with the Artistic Nudes as usual (to avoid clothing lines on the skin) and then shot the Glamour Nudes both using the Boudoir set as well as the “dressing table” set. We actually ended up using the main shooting room again towards the end of the shoot because the client had some cool clothing that we could shoot her in making the shots look really awesome with a fashion twist.

At Casual Elegance Photography® we never get tired of the variety of shoots we do. From head shots to Maternity to commercial to art and glamour nudes! Every day it’s something different and different is always good!

The word Erotic congers up many different thoughts and each person has a different idea on what Erotic is to them. I’ve asked many clients about the word and their thoughts. It amazes me at how different the answers are. I have a few shots in one of my books at the studio and I use it to determine the client’s view of erotic. By understanding what “Erotic” means to them I’m able to focus my shots on those types of images. When a couple asks for an Erotic Couples shoot, I use basically the same technique to gain an insight into their thoughts on the word so we can put together a plan for our shoot. The variation in thoughts is something I would have never believed. For instance, I had a shot of a woman’s legs in Red heels and a rose draped down one leg. It’s set to a gelled red on black backdrop (see it below). I’ve had some say that it’s the most erotic shot they have seen and had others say it’s not erotic at all. I’ll bet there’s some study or psychological paper about why people perceive it differently, but I really don’t want to know that much, just what they think it should look like. I remember taking a class once called “What you are is what your were when”. The class was about how we take in the world around us and develop our personal views as we grow up. Cool class!

So, if you call me to schedule an Erotic Shoot either alone or as a couple, be prepared to discuss what erotic means to you. 🙂

Many clients ask if they have to stick to one type of shoot during their session. The answer is no, you don’t. We have two main shooting areas so we can provide a full service. If the client wants multiple types of shots we typically start with the artistic nudes. This is because we don’t want any clothing lines on the body from their lingerie or outfits. We shoot our art nudes in our main shooting room which has a variety of lighting choices. Once we complete the art nudes we can then move to our Boudoir (bedroom) set and shoot the glamour/boudoir shots. We also have a small vanity/dressing table that we use for some really cool shots. It’s amazing the amount of variety the studio can provide as far as sets and lighting are concerned.

If you would like to stop by and see our studio just give me a call. I’d be happy to show you around and help you decide how to go about planning your photoshoot.

Casual Elegance Photography ® has been providing professional and experienced intimate/glamour photography since 2000.
