Why should you choose Casual Elegance for your pregnancy photos?  Many women want their “belly shots” to be at least partially nude, and although that is by no means a “requirement”, it’s something that Casual Elegance specializes in.  In addition, we are well known for our comfortable studio and relaxed shooting environment, but more importantly, for our professionalism, integrity, and for producing beautiful and lasting images of the most special time of your life.

The photographs in the maternity gallery on our website are all photos of models we have worked with on various projects over the years, who came back to us when they started their families.  They signed releases for their photos to be used on our site.  Your photographs will never be used on our website, unless you ask us to include them, and sign the appropriate releases.  Otherwise, your photos are simply that … YOUR photos.

We recommend starting the process very early in your pregnancy, and documenting your growing belly over the full term.   One photograph on our site shows 3 “phases” of a model’s last trimester.  Within hours of the final photograph she was in the hospital, giving birth.  That’s cutting it a little TOO close, but you get the idea.

We are happy to meet for a complimentary consultation prior to scheduling a photoshoot for you.  It gives us the opportunity to discuss ideas that you may have as to the types of photographs you want to have taken.  Give Casual Elegance Photography ® a call!

It’s been a few years since I did any night shoots, and I miss it. I need to shoot some in the very near future. Shooting at night can make images look totally different and exciting. Shooting at night also presents a whole bunch of different challenges for the photographer and the model. I like to shoot without a flash most of the time, but there are circumstances where a flash can add some real excitement to the image (see below). When shooting without a flash the camera must be mounted on a tripod, the ISO needs to be pumped up, and the model needs to stand real still. By using the available light and the slower shutter, vehicle lights streak through the image, the lights on the buildings add a warm glow, and the whole scene gets a special look that can’t normally be duplicated in the studio.

I have fond memories of some of the night shoots I’ve done. The models were great and worked their butts off to get the exact shots we were going for. One shoot was done in the rain at night. Talk about getting some very different looks to the shots. Between the rain and the night lighting, they took on a beautiful sexy look – the kind that dreams are made of.

Spring is one of our favorite times of year. In Atlanta it’s spectacular with everything in bloom – we never knew there were so many flowering trees and shrubs until we moved to GA!! It takes our breath away both literally and figuratively.

But spring is a time of renewal, rebirth, and new beginnings, which is what brings me to this short “Bellies” blog. One of our favorite photoshoots at Casual Elegance is the pregnancy photo. Expectant mothers (and fathers too!) have a glow that naturally illuminates their images. But beyond that glow, pregnancy photos have so much emotion wrapped up in them – love, hope, anticipation. Usually by the time women come in for their photos there is a serenity about them that transcends into the photograph with a beauty beyond words. I love being able to capture and preserve all of that emotion and beauty for them look back on for years to come.

We had a shoot scheduled for today, but it was just cancelled. The Mom-to-be is in labor at the hospital. The Dad-to-be is an officer so this was the only available day that everyone was free. Guess we cut it a little too close with the schedule this time. 🙂

As I said in another blog, don’t let this moment get away from you. Plan for a photoshoot while you are in your last couple of months. You’ll regret it if you don’t get photos of this special time in your life. At Casual ELegance Photography we want to capture the beauty and love that this special time brings.

I can’t tell you how many times a client has been looking through my books at the studio and said “I wish I had taken maternity photos like these.”   The really regret not having the professional images of them in the beauty of their pregnancy.  It’s a beautiful and wonderful time so having the photos as a memory is something that really needs to be done.

I’ve done hundreds of sessions and the clients have loved the session and the results.  I even had one client order a 16×20 print for their home and another for her mother.   Most ask for the edited images on a CD with a release to print them so that they can make prints for their families.

And NO, you don’t have to be nude to do great maternity photos.  I’ve shot many clients fully clothed but showing the “belly” perfectly.  Many clients want to do a few nudes but some don’t want to.  It’s an individual preference that we totally understand.

So while you are pregnant don’t forget to have some great belly shots done so you won’t have to say “I wish I had done them.”

This is a blog I wrote over a year ago, but I felt that I need to re-post it because I have been receiving calls from potential clients who have had bad experiences when doing a boudoir session with another photographer in the past.  I told them that these are the things that they should ask right up front.  I know that this isn’t positively going to make sure that the photographer is the right one, but it will help with the short  list.  I’ve sent them this list of questions to help them get started.

I received a call from a potential client back a while ago and I was actually very delighted that she had such a good list of questions for me before she would hire a photographer – especially one that was going to take intimate photos for her. She had done her homework and said that she wanted to be sure she was dealing with a professional and a real business. Here are some of the questions she asked and the answers I gave her.

1. Do you have a business license? (yes – in Sandy Springs where my studio is)
2. Are you a corporation and in which state? (yes – Mark L. Anderson, LLC – Georgia – DBA Casual Elegance Photography®)
3. Do you have insurance? (yes – liability and loss of property)
4. When did you start the business? (2000 – I have been specializing in Boudoir and Intimate photography since 2001. I don’t shoot weddings and have not just added Boudoir photography to my menu of services.  I take the business of Boudoir and Intimate Photography seriously and professionally.)
5. Do you have a Website? – she was referred by a friend (yes – casualelegancephotography.com and my email address is mark@casualelegancephotography.com)
6. Do you have a studio? Can I meet with you ahead of the shoot and see your studio? (yes I have a 15oo sq ft studio in a small quite business park – I encourage that you come in ahead of time to discuss a shoot.  It’s always a good idea to see if you click with someone.  You can see examples of my work and we can go over ideas.)
7. Do you have a Makeup Artist? (yes – I utilize the services of several in the area but work closely with 3 – all licensed estheticians. They all believe in cleanliness and ensure their equipment and products are cleaned between uses. These Makeup Artists and I have worked together for over 10 years.)
8. Can I bring someone to the shoot with me? (YES – I highly encourage you to do that)
9. Will my photos be sold or used by you? ( NO! I do not use client images. If a client wants me to use an image I require them to sign an agreement for me to do so. I don’t even allow anyone other than the client to order prints or a CD)

Another few questions that should also be asked are:

1.  What forms of payment do you accept? (I accept most major credit cards, checks, and cash)

2.  Do you provide Prints or just photos on a CD?  (I can provide either or both.  I can also provide books, calendars, and canvas prints.)

3.  What are your hours of operation?  (I’m by appointment only and have appointment hours 7 days per week and on holidays)

She had a bunch more questions but they were related to the process, the shoot, and the timing. As I said, I was delighted that she was taking the task of hiring a photographer so seriously and I gladly answered her questions. It made me very happy that I had followed all the right steps to build my business correctly, and that Casual Elegance Photography® had all the right answers.

Valentines Day is almost here and I’m almost all caught up on edits and prints for my clients.   This year was really busy with last minute shoots to get Boudoir images for Valentines Day, but we managed to get them all in and get back the prints in time for the big day.

Many people don’t realize that professional photographers don’t use a 1 hour lab to get their prints done.  And for Boudoir and Glamour images, almost every selected image has to have some editing and balancing done.  So, the average time from the end of the shoot and when images are in hand varies between 5 and 15 days depending on how quickly the images are selected, how many images need editing, how much editing is needed, how long it takes for you to approve the images, and how busy the lab is.  We try to meet the clients requested turn around time but we also recommend a shoot at least 2 weeks before you need the images.

When you are planning to get that special gift done for that special someone, allow enough time to be sure you will have the gift in hand before the big day.   Visit Casual Elegance Photography® to schedule your session today!

Over the past couple of months I’ve learned what the down side is to having “a pinched nerve” checked out by my doctor.  After my initial visit I’ve had to take days off to visit doctors for a herniated disk in my neck and now a deviated septum just to name a couple.  I’m doing physical therapy twice a week and I’ve kept the pharmaceutical companies in business by using many medicines that have some very crazy side effects listed on the packages.  I’ve had probes stuck up my nose, shots into my spine, and more exposure to xrays and MRIs than I’ve had in my lifetime. On top of that I have a list of other doctors that my primary care doctor wants me to see such as a gastroenterologist, urologist, and a neurosurgeon.  I felt better before I visited the doctor the first time. No wonder insurance is so expensive – each visit creates several other visits to other doctors.  Even the co-pays start to add up quickly.  SO… now I’m taking a break from doctors for a while.  I’m going to get back to the business of photography and creating art from life.  I have several photo sessions planned for the next couple of weeks and I’m looking forward to them all.  I’ll be shooting maternity sessions, head shots, a couple of boudoir sessions, and an artistic nude session.  And next month I have a corporate session where I will be shooting 85 or so employee head shots in one day.  Thank goodness they will have one employee who is coordinating everything!

Once I take a rest from this medical craziness, I guess I’ll follow up with all the other doctors they say I need to see.  Who knows, maybe I can sell them some photography services while I’m there!  🙂
