It’s a weird combination, but I’ve found that photoshoots on rainy days seem to go better. I don’t know if it’s the fact that it’s not nice out so everyone is in less of a hurry to leave, or if peoples moods change to more mellow when it rains. What ever it is, it’s nice to be in the warm dry studio shooting headshots and more.
Today started with a 1.5 hour ride to the studio that normally takes about 15 minutes in traffic. But I actually enjoyed the ride. It was bumper to bumper traffic so I got a chance to look around on the road that I normally do 40 mph and miss everything. I found a great sounding/looking French bakery and cafe. I saw a place that sells pine straw for $3 per bail. I watched several people rush in with their pets and out minutes later from an animal hospital – made me think that no matter what the economic times bring, people will sacrifice to keep their pets (part of the family) healthy. I actually got a chance to look deep into the strip malls and discovered several small businesses that I never knew existed.
I got thinking of how much we miss in the hectic lives we have. Years ago one would walk down “Main Street” and know every business and every business owner. People would stop and say hello. People would smile as they passed each other and often say hello. So many things have changed. We get in our cars with a purpose and motor the roads quickly – not really knowing anything that’s going one around us.
I’m happy that the traffic was a mess, it gave me so many ideas for photo essays on our hectic society.
